"I love to work in any medium, it is all about shaping ideas into new forms"

About Me

I have been creating art my entire life. My Dad was a painter, well, more like a house painter. So, I grew up seeing brushes and paint buckets all over. At age 10 I had participated in several competitions and won National awards in modeling clay. I didn't think I was doing anything special. I was able to shape with my hands the forms I saw in nature, or in books. Back then, we did not have the internet. We had "encyclopedias", sometimes with boring black and white photos. Well, I would look at books and recreate those images in clay, making my own sculptures. I had a very humble beginning, so I had to start working at a young age. At 17, I taught art, working for several art institutions and public schools. I was fortunate to exhibit at The Museum of Anthropology in Xalapa, Universidad Veracruzana, IVEC and other venues.

Since moving to the U.S. in 1990, my career took a different direction. I worked in the manufacturing industry, as a planner, manager, expeditor, administrator, etc. Today, I am a Software Engineer by trade and I create graphics. How good is that? Finally, the perfect job for me. It allows me to to mix my career with my passion for art. To be an artist and get paid for it is my dream come true!

Artist Statement

"I believe that art is essential to life. We find ART in everything around us. Whether we identify with it or not, in the end, nobody can judge art, it is a personal affair between the medium and the creator. Art is what frees the spirit and enables to express the most intimate emotions, so whether I feel happy or sad, it is reflected on my artwork. Everything in the creative process is valid, as there is no right or wrong. A painting is a transparent door to the artist's vision, and breaking a few rules once in a while makes creating Art a fun and interesting experience" - Maritza
